AMERICAN LEGION POST 101 LOWELL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

 

Our local American Legion Post 101 established this $1,000 scholarship.


This scholarship is awarded to a senior who participated in ROTC, the Flex program or Sea Cadets, or shows interest in serving their community, state or nation. The recipient may pursue any educational or professional area they choose.

​

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have participated in ROTC, Flex or Sea Cadet program

  • have or plan to service your community, state or nation

  • have at least a 2.8 GPA

  • plan to attend a two- or four-year college or university, trade or vocational school

  • submit the required essay

  • participate in an interview, if requested

​CHERYL ROSEVEAR COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $1,500

​

These scholarships recognize students who have strengthened our community by demonstrating outstanding leadership in service by giving of themselves in order to help others. TCEF established two community service scholarships in the honor of our founder and first president, Cheryl Rosevear.

​

To be eligible for one of these $1,500 scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university

  • submit the required essay

  • participate in an interview, if requested

​

HOOP DREAMS SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

 

Hoop Dreams is comprised of Lowell community members with a passion for education and athletics. They believe in community spirit through education, advocacy, and the promotion of respect and compassion to facilitate students’ transitions to higher education making the process exciting and rewarding. Applicants may pursue any field of study.

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade, or vocational school

  • be a senior basketball player (male or female – no managers)

  • submit two letters of recommendation (one from each)

    • Teacher

    • Community member

  • participate in an interview, if requested

IRVIN AND VIOLET GURITZ CTE SCHOLARSHIP - $10,000  

 

Irvin and Violet Guritz remembered LHS Seniors in their Trust with a generous gift to the scholarship fund.

 

To be eligible for this $10,000 (payable at $2,500 per semester for four semesters or equivalent) scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.0 GPA

  • plan to attend an accredited trade or vocational school, or certification program

  • participate in an interview, if requested

IRVIN AND VIOLET GURITZ STEM SCHOLARSHIP - $10,000

 

Irvin and Violet Guritz remembered LHS seniors in their Trust with a generous gift to the scholarship fund.

 

To be eligible for this $10,000 (payable at $2,500 per semester for four semesters) scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.4 GPA

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university and major in any of the STEM fields

  • participate in an interview, if requested

IZAAK WALTON LEAGUE DIANA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

 

The Diana Chapter was established in 1948 to protect, restore and conserve wild life, wetlands and natural resources. To further their goals they have established this scholarship to aid an LHS senior hoping to pursue a career in conservation, environmental studies or related field.

 

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.5 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • plan to pursue a career involving conservation, agriculture, environmental or natural resources fields, or environmental biology

  • participate in an interview, if requested

 

     

JACK FOSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $5,000 (one male and one female)

 

These $5000 scholarships were established in Jack Foss's memory by Jack's family.  Mr. Foss was a long time and well loved principal of Oak Hill Elementary school, an activity member of our community and active with    the Lowell Lions. They wish to recognize and honor students of LHS who show core values, selfless leadership and commitment to excellence in academics and community service.

 

To be eligible for one of these $5,000 scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade upon graduation

  • participate in an interview, if requested

JACOB HAMM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $500

 

Two $500 scholarships were established in Jacob Hamm's memory by Jacob's parents and family. They wish to recognize and honor students of LHS who believe in and demonstrate the value of friendship, are active in the community, and show characteristics of leadership. One scholarship will be awarded to a male student and one scholarship to a female student.

 

To be eligible for one of these $500 scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • participate in an interview, if requested

  • applicants must also demonstrate the following:

    • believe in and demonstrate the value of friendship 

    • reflect a positive attitude

    • be active in the community and/or school

    • show characteristics of leadership.

JEANNE K. MERCER MEMORIAL WOMAN'S HEALTHCARE & SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP - $500

 

This $500 scholarship was established by Dr. Margaret Pfister to honor her mother, Dr. Mercer.  Dr. Mercer was an early and strong supporter of women in the fields of medicine and science.  Both Dr. Mercer and Dr. Pfister hope to encourage women in these fields.

 

To be eligible for this $500 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.5 GPA

  • plan to pursue a career in healthcare or science

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • submit the Character Recommendation Form

  • participate in an interview, if requested

JAMES E. LITTLE AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP - $2,000

 

James E. Little taught chemistry at Lowell High School and then became the first agricultural teacher at the school.  Mr. Little was a community leader and farmer who loved Purdue, track, and encouraging students to explore the field of agriculture. 

​

To be eligible for this $2,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.8 GPA

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university

  • participate in an interview, if requested

JOHN BIRKHEAD MEMORIAL SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP - $750

 

This scholarship was established by his family to honor John who was an avid golfer and sports fan.
   

To be eligible for this $500 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • have participated in high school sports for four years

  • have faced and overcome a challenge or handicap in his/her athletic career

  • participate in an interview, if requested

LAURA STRONG-BRUGH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

                

Laura was a teacher at LHS and this scholarship was established in her memory by her family, friends and students.

 

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • plan to attend a cosmetology, trade or vocational school (any field) or culinary arts program

  • submit the required essay

  • participate in an interview, if requested

LEO HERRERA SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

​

This scholarship was established by Leo Herrera a regional insurance agent

and a resident of Lowell.  She has children is LHS and setup the scholarship to

support her community and our LHS seniors.

​

To be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: 

    * graduate  from Lowell High School    

    * have at least a 2.8 GPA

    * show evidence of enrollment in an accredited college or university

    * preference will be given for need and to students interested in business or entrepreneurial interest

    * participate in an interview process, if asked

LOWELL BUSINESS COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

​

This scholarship was established by the Tri-Creek Education Foundation and is sponsored by various businesses from the Lowell Business Community.  The 2022 scholarship was sponsored by Ken Sheets of SHEETS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES.  The 2023 scholarship is sponsored by Alan Hopper of HOPPER ROOFING AND SIDING SUPPLY.  This year's scholarship is sponsored by Joy Shurman of LOWELL CARPET AND COVERINGS

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • have at least a 2.70 GPA

  • attend a college, university or trade school

  • applicants can major in any field

  • applicants focused on areas of business with be given priority

  • participate in an interview, if requested

LOWELL HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1977 SCHOLARSHIP - $500

 

This scholarship was established by a group of 1977 graduates of LHS.  It is their desire to honor LHS graduates.

 

To be eligible for this $500 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have a parent/parents who graduated from LHS

  • have at least a 2.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • submit the Character Recommendation Form from one person outside of LHS

  • participate in an interview, if requested

LOWELL LABOR DAY FESTIVAL VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

​

This new scholarship was established by the committee who runs the Lowell 100+ year old Labor Day parade and festival. The committee wants to help a LHS Senior who wants a career in the vocational/skilled trades.

​

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • after graduation plan to attend a vocational school, trade school, or similar program

  • have at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA

  • show evidence of at least 20 hours of community service during you LHS career

  • submit the Character Recommendation Form from one person inside or outside of LHS

  • participate in an interview, if requested

LOWELL ROTARY CLUB - $2,000

 

The Lowell Rotary Club, in their tradition of supporting our community and our kids, established this scholarship. This scholarship is directed toward students going into the technical trades and apprenticeship programs.

 

To be eligible for this $2,000 scholarship ($500 per semester for four semesters) applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • plan to attend an accredited trade or vocational school, certification program, or qualified apprenticeship program

  • submit reference letters from two people: one by a person from school, work or place where volunteering; and, one by a person who is not a family member or teacher at LHS

  • participate in an interview, if requested

  • speak at a Lowell Rotary Club meeting prior to receiving payments #2, #3 and #4

MASTER GARDENERS ASSSOCIATION OF LAKE COUNTY - 2 @ $1,000 each

 

This scholarship was established by the Lake County Master Gardeners Association to support students interested in Horticulture and related fields.

To be eligible for one of these $1000 scholarships you must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.5 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • plan to major in horticulture, botany, forestry, agriculture, landscape architecture, agriculture education or related fields

  • participate in an interview, if requested

MATTHEW DURHAM MEMORIAL TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

 

This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Matthew Durham.  Matt was an LHS graduate with a passion for computers and technology.

​

To be eligible for this $1000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school

  • plan to study an area in computer science or technology

  • participate in an interview, if requested

​

MICHAEL J JONES SCHOLARSHIP  - $10,000 

 

The family of Michael J Jones established this scholarship in his memory.  Michael was a farmer and the family has great respect for teachers; therefore, the scholarship is directed to any student studying any area of agriculture or entering the teaching profession. 

 

To be eligible for this $10,000 scholarship ($1,250 per semester for eight semesters) applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • plan to attend an accredited agricultural program or a four-year college or university

  • plan to study an area of agriculture or teacher education

  • submit the Character Recommendation Form completed by one of their high school teachers

  • participate in an interview, if requested

MIDKIFF & KEETON FAMILY VALUES SCHOLARSHIP - 2 @ $500

 

These scholarships were established in honor of Mindy Keeton and in memory of Kerri Midkiff.  The family survived tragedies because of their strong family values and love.  The family wants to honor Kerri and Mindy with two scholarships to help LHS seniors who show and understand the importance of family values.  Two scholarships will be awarded, one to a male and one to a female.

 

To be eligible for one of these $500 scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.5 GPA

  • plan to attend a college, university, trade, or vocational school

  • participate in an interview, if requested

MILLER FAMILY FUND SCHOLARSHIP - $80,000

 

P. Michael Miller, a 1956 graduate of LHS representing the Miller Family Fund, established this scholarship. The intention is to fund this scholarship in 2019-awarded, 2020-awarded, 2021-awarded, 2022-awarded and 2023-awarded.

 

To be eligible for this $80,000 scholarship (payable at $10,000 per semester for eight semesters) applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.2 GPA

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university, and live on campus or in off-campus housing

  • plan to major in any of the science, technology, engineering, math, education or business fields

  • provide the required financial information to ensure having met the scholarship financial need component

  • submit the required essay

  • participate in an interview, if requested

​RUTH DAHL-WEINBERG TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP - 2@ $20,000

 

This scholarship (paid out as $2,500 year one, $5,000 years two and three and $7,500 year four) was established by Ruth's husband, Joe, with the first scholarship awarded in May, 2004.  Ruth Dahl-Weinberg was a life-long Lowell resident and taught in the Tri-Creek School Corporation at Oak Hill and Lake Prairie Schools for 35 years.

 

To be eligible for this $20,000 scholarship ($2,500 year one, $5,000 years two & three and $7,500 year four) applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a high school 3.2 GPA and maintain a 3.0 GPA in college

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university and major in Education

  • maintain a college Education Department major all four years

  • participate in an interview, if requested

RYON BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEUR SCHOLARSHIP - $3,000

 

This scholarship was established by businesswoman, Mrs. Diane Ryon and was the first scholarship established with TCEF.  It is Mrs. Ryon's desire to help students attain a college education preparing them for a business career.  This scholarship is awarded in four $750 payments over four semesters if the recipient provides proof of maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA and enrollment in a business career.

 

To be eligible for this $3,000 scholarship ($750 per semester for the first four semesters of college) applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • plan to attend a LOCAL college or university (cannot live on campus – must commute from home)

  • maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in college

  • major in a business-related field or aspire to run their own business of any type

  • participate in an interview, if requested

SLC AGRICULTURAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S FFA SCHOLARSHIP - $500

 

This scholarship was established in 2014 by the South Lake County Agricultural Historical Society.  The Society's purpose is to honor and aid an LHS FFA student who hopes to pursue a career in any area of agriculture or conservation.

 

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 2.5 GPA

  • plan to attend a college or university

  • major in farming, land management, veterinary medicine, land conservation or related field

  • participate in an interview, if requested

SPC AUGUSTUS "AUGY" VICARI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

 

This scholarship was established by Augy's aunt, Vicki Vicari, to honor Augy's memory.  Augy, a graduate of LHS, lost his life in service to the United States of America in Afghanistan.

 

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • plan to attend an accredited trade of vocational school, certification program or qualified apprenticeship program

  • submit reference letters from two people: one by a person from school, work, or place where volunteering; and, one from a person who is not a family member or teacher at LHS

  • participate in an interview, if requested

TRUITT VETERINARY SCHOLARSHIP - $250

 

Established in 2005 by Mrs. Sandra Truitt in memory of her dear friends, Mary Boggs, Lil Carlson and Darlene Stansberry, this scholarship will be awarded to an LHS senior pursuing a degree in the field of veterinary medicine.  A unique feature of this scholarship is that the recipient can re-apply for an additional one-time amount of $250 after completing one year of college, provided the recipient has at least a 3.0 GPA, and continues to pursue a degree in the field of veterinary medicine. If the recipient meets these requirements, he/she will qualify for the additional financial support bringing the value of this scholarship to $500.

 

To be eligible for this one-time renewable $250 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university with an accredited Veterinary Medicine Program and major in Veterinary Medicine

  • participate in an interview, if requested

URSULA M. ANDREWS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000  

 

This scholarship was established by Ursula's Book Club and other friends.  Before her retirement from the Superintendent's office of Tri-Creek School Corporation Ursula taught art and was principal at LHS.  

 

To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • plan to attend a four-year college or university majoring if a field involving literature or fine arts

  • submit the required essay

  • participate in an interview, if requested
