Scholarships
Since 2001, the
Foundation has awarded $65,625.00 in scholarships to
Lowell High School graduates. In May 2008, we will,
once again, award thousands of dollars in
scholarships thereby investing in the continued
educational successes of Tri-Creek students.
Following are the scholarships that are available
this year:
NICK PARENTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Rick and Nan Parente established this
annual scholarship, in the amount of $750.00, with
the Foundation in memory of their son, Nick, who was
a Tri-Creek student and a graduate of Lowell High
School. Nick was a very creative person and in honor
of him, the scholarship will recognize a graduating
senior who demonstrated creative self-expression
using music, art, writing or drama during his/her
time at Lowell High School. In order to qualify for
this scholarship, the applicant must:
- have at least a "C" average
- participate in an interview process
- attend a college/university, trade or
vocational school upon graduation.

TRUITT
VETERINARY SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2005 by Mrs. Sandra Truitt in memory of her dear friends Mary
Boggs, Lil Carlson and Darlene Stansberry, this scholarship, in the amount
of $250.00, will be awarded each year to a graduating senior from
Lowell High School who will be pursuing a degree in the field of veterinary
medicine. A unique feature of this scholarship is that the recipient can
re-apply for an additional one-time amount of $250.00 in funding after
completing one year of college, provided the recipient has a grade point
average of "B" or above, and continues to pursue a degree in the
field of veterinary medicine. If the recipient meets these requirements,
he/she will qualify for the additional financial support bringing the value
of this scholarship to $500.00. To qualify for this scholarship,
students must:
- have a GPA of "B" or higher
- upon graduation, attend a four year college or
university with an accredited Veterinary
Medicine Program and major in Veterinary
Medicine
- participate in an interview process

RYON BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP
Established by businesswoman, Mrs. Diane Ryon,
the Ryon Business Scholarship was the first
scholarship established with the Foundation. It is
Mrs. Ryon’s desire to help students attain a
college education preparing them for a business
career. To be eligible for this scholarship,
students must:
- have at least a "C" average upon
graduation from Lowell High School
- participate in an interview process
- plan to attend a commuter college with a
business major.
The scholarship, valued at $3,000.00, is
awarded to two students each year.
Students interested in applying for this
scholarship should contact the guidance department
at Lowell High School.
LOWELL HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1977
SCHOLARSHIP
This $500.00 scholarship was
established by a group of 1977 graduates of Lowell
High School. It is their desire to annually honor a
graduate of Lowell High School. The scholarship
requirements are:
- one or both of the applicant’s parents must
be graduates of Lowell High School
- the student must have actively participated in
school activities at Lowell High School
- the student must have at least a "C"
GPA upon graduation
- the student must attend a college/university
or trade school

LOWELL HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP
Originally established by the Lowell
High School Student Council Sponsor and the 2002
Student Council President to honor student leaders,
this $250.00
scholarship was first awarded in May, 2003.
The requirements for this scholarship are that the
recipient must be a member of the Lowell High School
Student Council and must have held an office during
his/her time at Lowell High School.
LHS INTERDISCIPLINARY
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION (I.C.E.) SCHOLARSHIP
Lowell High School teacher, Mrs. Kathy Nelson,
established the Lowell High School I.C.E.
Scholarship to recognize students who participated
in the Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education
program at Lowell High School. This scholarship, in
the amount of $2,000.00, is unique because it
is awarded to graduates of Lowell High School after
they have completed one year of post-secondary
education. To be eligible for this scholarship,
applicants must:
- have participated in Lowell High School’s
I.C.E. Program since 2001
- have completed one year of post secondary
education at a college, university, trade
school, or in an apprentice program
- demonstrate financial need
- have a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher
- participate in an interview process

TRI-CREEK EDUCATION
FOUNDATION COMMUNITY
SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
Wishing to recognize students who have
strengthened our community by demonstrating
outstanding leadership in service by giving of
themselves in order to help others, the Foundation
established this annual scholarship. Valued at $500.00,
the scholarship is awarded to one graduating student
who:
- maintains at least a "C" average
upon graduation
- has performed voluntary, non-compensated
community service during his/her time at Lowell
High School
- participates in an interview process
- will attend a college/university or trade
school upon graduation.

RUTH DAHL-WEINBERG
SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in
memory of Mrs. Ruth Dahl-Weinberg. A life-long
resident of Lowell, Ruth Weinberg taught in the
Tri-Creek School Corporation for thirty-five years,
teaching at the Oakland and Lake Prairie Elementary
schools. Ruth’s husband, Joseph Weinberg,
established this scholarship to honor Ruth for the
years of dedication she provided the many students
she taught during her career. The Ruth Dahl-Weinberg
Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000.00, is
awarded to a Lowell High School graduate who must:
- have a GPA of "B" or higher
- participate in an interview process
- attend a four year college/university
majoring in education

CHORAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in the amount of $500.00,
was established in partnership with the Lowell High
School Choir Boosters to honor a graduating senior
who:
- participated in the choir program for at least
three years
- maintains at least a "C" average
- participates in an interview process

LOWELL HIGH
SCHOOL ACADEMIC DECATHLON SCHOLARSHIP
The Lowell High School Academic
Decathlon Scholarship was established by teacher,
Joseph Gianotti, to honor students who participated
in the challenge of being a decathlete during their
time at Lowell High School. To be eligible for this $400.00
scholarship, applicants must:
- have been a starting decathlete
- plan to attend a trade school, college or university
- and participate in an interview process.

THE JACOB HAMM SCHOLARSHIP
FUND
The family and friends of Jacob Hamm
have established this scholarship in memory of
Jacob, a student at Oak Hill Elementary School, who
was killed in a tragic accident. This scholarship
will honor Jacob in future years when the
scholarship is awarded in his name. Details on
this scholarship are being finalized.
THE ERIN WENTWORTH
SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established by
members of Lowell High School's Freshman Student
Council and the Student Council Sponsor in memory of
Erin Wentworth, a Lowell Middle School student who
lost her battle with a terminal illness. Erin
will be honored in future years when this
scholarship is awarded in her name. Details
for the scholarship are being finalized.
The following scholarships are
offered in partnership with the Lowell High School Athletic Department, the
Lowell Athletic Boosters, the Lowell High School Lettermen's Club, and the
Lowell High School Girls' Basketball Program, and are awarded during the
Senior Athletic Banquet.
THE
DOUG PRATT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Valued at $300.00
for 2006, this scholarship is awarded to a
male senior basketball player nominated and chosen
by the Lowell High School Athletic Director.
THE KELLY
ADAMS SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP
Kelly Adams was a highly spirited athlete who
displayed a genuine concern for all students of
Lowell High School. A good portion of Kelly's
life was devoted to cheerleading, gymnastics, and
promoting school spirit. The Kelly Adams
Spirit Scholarship is an attempt to remember Kelly
by enabling a deserving student to continue their
education upon graduation from Lowell High
School. Each year, a selected athlete or
athletes who best exemplify the true spirit of a
Lowell High School student will be awarded a $500.00
scholarship. To be considered for this
scholarship, the candidate must:
- have a letter of acceptance to a college,
university, or trade or vocational school
- display a spirited and uplifting attitude
toward fellow students
- reflect a positive attitude as an active
participant in the athletic program during
their time at Lowell High School
- demonstrate a genuine concern for the
improvement of the school community
- reflect the characteristics of leadership
and good citizenship in school, and
- hold in high regard and demonstrate the
value of friendship
THE LOWELL
HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTORS
LEADERSHIP/CITIZENSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
To qualify for this
scholarship, valued at $1,000.00,
the student athlete must:
-
be in the top 10% of their class
-
be a member of the National
Honor Society
-
have a minimum of two varsity
letters in two different sports
-
have served as an officer or
council member in the Lettermen's Club and/or
served as a captain of a varsity team during
their time at Lowell High School
-
have received all-conference or
all-state recognition either academically or
athletically during their high school career
-
have served in a leadership role
for a high school project aimed at improving
student life at Lowell High School and
-
be active in community service
THE LOWELL
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship honors exemplary
senior basketball players that have served as
positive role models for future Lady Red
Devils. The applicants must:
-
have demonstrated a commitment
to the development of girls involved in the
youth basketball feeder programs (i.e.
Dinky Devils, Summer Camps, and the Middle
School League)
-
have an accumulative GPA of at
least 3.0 and
-
have received three award
letters in girls' basketball, at any level
THE LOWELL
HIGH SCHOOL LETTERMEN'S CLUB LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
This $500.00
scholarship is awarded to an outstanding Lowell High
School senior athlete. To be considered, the
applicant must have:
-
a GPA of at least 2.5
-
demonstrated some type of
service either in the community or within
activities sponsored by the Lettermen's Club and
-
a letter of acceptance to a
college, university, trade or vocational school
-
THE PEPSI
LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Established by Pepsi, this
scholarship is awarded to athletes who demonstrate
leadership, dependability, dedication and a caring
attitude for others. In addition, the recipient must
have a GPA of at least 2.5.
THE
RON WILLIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established in October, 2004 by the
Lowell High School Athletic Department, the Ron
Willis Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of
$250.00,
was set up in memory of Ron Willis who had a
passion for long distance running. Each of his
three children participated in cross country running
at Lowell High School and Ron loved to watch his
children participate. This new scholarship will be
awarded to one or more outstanding senior athletes
at Lowell High School who:
-
demonstrate a spirited and
uplifting attitude toward fellow students
-
reflect a positive attitude as
an active participant in the athletic program
-
demonstrate a high value for
friendship, and
-
reflect the characteristics of
leadership and good citizenship
The academic requirements include:
-
maintaining a grade point
average of at least 2.5
-
receiving a varsity letter
-
attending a college, university,
trade or vocational school upon graduation
THE MEL HENIG MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP
Established in October, 2005 in partnership with
the Lowell High School Athletic Department , this
scholarship, in the amount of $1,000.00
(or two scholarships valued at $500.00
each), will be awarded to one or two
outstanding Lowell High School senior athletes who
will be attending a college or university, trade or
vocational school upon graduation.
THE KAY
SAMPSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established in October, 2005 in
partnership with the Lowell High School Athletic
Department, the Kay Sampson Memorial Scholarship,
valued at $500.00,
will be awarded to one male and one
female graduate of Lowell High School who:
-
maintained a GPA of at least 2.5
upon graduation
-
received a varsity letter while
attending Lowell High School
-
will attend a college,
university, trade or vocational school upon
graduation.
